Your mobile device has become more critical to your business lately. Many of the apps that you use are helpful but you want to really expand your list of apps that will be useful for your social media marketing campaign.

You spend a really long time using your mobile device and you should be using apps that help you to easily achieve your goals in the most painless way possible. In fact, the use of mobile devices has overtaken web surfing in many cases. It is so much more convenient, especially if you are on the road a lot of the time. You will find that you are doing more and more of your social networking through your mobile device than ever. With that in mind, you will undoubtedly want to choose to download apps that will help you to be on the cutting edge of what is going on in social media. You certainly don’t want to fall behind the times.

There are many different ways in which you can put together a list of the apps that fit best with your marketing campaign. Some of the possible sources are colleagues, friends, online content, etc. You can also do a search (you will need to put in the search terms that are a close fit with what you are looking for). It is best to start with apps that don’t cost anything (of which there are many). Some of the apps that you may want to consider are:

  • Documents to Go: This app allows you to view, create, and edit MS Word and Excel files, read PowerPoint files, pdfs, and other files; it also allows you to send and receive attachments using your mobile device’s build-in mail app.
  • Analytics app: The Analytics app contains over 50 reports with lots and lots of data. You can monitor your analytics as you move. With this capability, you will never be separated from your data.
  • Check it: This app is connected to checklists. It generates a straightforward checklist for you and will help you to keep track of everything that you need to do in an organized fashion.
  • Chomp: Chomp is actually a search engine that helps you to find the apps that you want. It conducts the search based on the function and purpose of the apps themselves.
  • Dropbox: This is a free service that allows you to gather all of your documents, videos, and photographs into a single repository. Once Dropbox is installed on your computer, it will automatically be installed on all of your other computers. In other words, you will always have access to Dropbox.
  • Dragon Dictation: This app translates your spoken word to a text message. It is very easy and convenient and you don’t have to worry if you a lousy typist.
  • Facebook: Facebook for mobile devices helps you to stay connected with people and to share information whenever you wish to do so. The possibilities are truly endless with this one.
  • Flipboard: Flipboard is an app that makes it easy for you to flip through whatever you are interested in (news, videos, photos, status updates, etc). You can stay abreast of the latest stories, videos, etc, from a wide variety of publications and people.
  • Flickr: This is an app for sharing photos from wherever you are.
  • HomeBase: This app allows you to sydicate all of your announcements to all of your social media channels at once. It is an excellent social media marketing tool.
  • Instagram: This allows you to take photos and enhance them or add special effects. You will be amazed at what your finished product will look like.
  • Dash of Color: Along those same lines as Instagram, Dash of Color can add different colors to black and white photos for a dramatic and stunning effect.
  • LastPass: this is a tab browser that allows you to use existing accounts to store your passwords. It is excellent to have a repository of passwords. You will never have to search high and low for your passwords again.
  • LiveProfile: This app lets you speak with your colleagues, friends, and family in real time.
  • Mashable: This app connects you with Mashable, which is one of the largest and strongest blog sites in existence.
  • Skype: You can skype people (video and instant messaging) them from your mobile device with this app. Very cool.
  • Spout: Instead of having to search for information, you can use Spout to bring it all too you. You will be receiving customized information that is totally relevant to you.
  • Toodledo: This app allows you to list tasks and take notes as you go. You can create a “to do” list and check it off. It is a wonderful organization tool.

Conclusion

There are many more apps that have not been discussed here but that are useful. It is very important to know what is available so that you can take advantage of them, if they are appropriate for what you are doing. It is important for business owners to fully understand what apps have to offer for the benefit of their businesses as well as for the benefit of their customers. Technology is changing so rapidly and new tools are being offered all of the time. It is important that you keep up so that you stay on the cutting edge.

Carolyn is absolutely right. There are so many useful apps appearing it can sometimes be confusing. Before selecting specific apps, develop a list of tools that will help you be more productive. Then search of apps that will meet that need.

Good list – am looking forward to checking out Dragon Dictation. Really like DropBox. I've starting kicking around the Yammer mobile app. It's a private company collaboration tool where you don't have to save all the important email messages. You can organize by projects or departments. And unlike private FB groups, you can upload documents.

I think an upcoming application was missed – loyaytree. They create mobile loyalty rewards programs via smart phone application, getting rid of the hastle of punch and scan cards. Where marketing, customer loyalty and service and technology mix..
