Engaging Your Clients Through Social Media

Business Relationship Management

At this point in time, there are several different aspects to social media beyond the obvious ones. In other words, social media is not just about using Facebook and Twitter. There is so much more that you can be doing with social media that you may not even realize.

The many opportunities

Engaging on social media channels is about so many possible opportunities at this point. You can run a contest and give away prizes, engage your online communities, offer some sort of a game, and all sorts of other things that you can think of. There are many creative ways in which you can engage with your fans and followers. Those opportunities can help you to bring your online social media marketing strategy to the next level. This will allow you to begin to interact one-on-one with your online connections, especially your clients and perspective clients. The more interactive activities that you can come up with, the better for the success of your business.

There are many different ways that you can approach this and still become successful as a result. Before you do anything else, you need to prepare in certain ways.

  • Have a clear understanding of the social media landscaping: This means that you need to understand the social media environment in which you will be involved. This also includes paying close attention to what other businesses are doing in your niche and outside of your niche.

  • Set up clear objectives: You must have clear objectives of what you want to accomplish through your social media interactions.

  • Have alerts set up about what people are saying: It is critical to your business that you are mindful about what other people are saying about your business, about topics that interest them, and about which social media channels they favor. All of that information is of vital importance.

  • Employ trial programs: Using a trial program before you actually implement your program (or programs) will teach you a great deal of valuable information. It is an excellent tool and you should definitely take advantage of it for your business.

  • Stay far away from silos: It is also critical that you do not manage your social media interactions in isolation. If you do that, it won’t help you at all and all of your efforts will be for nothing.

As you understand, it takes a great deal for a business to be successful through social media interactions and an online social media marketing strategy that brings your business to the next level.

Managing and maintaining your efforts

Once you have set everything up and have determined that your efforts have placed your business exactly where you want to be in the social media realm, you need to step up your efforts. It is critical that you understand that complacency is the kiss of death.

Bringing it to the next level

Now you are at the point where you are going to start interacting with your clients and perspective clients on a one-to-one basis. There are several things that you can do to get started.

  • One-to-one is not automatic: Many people make the mistake of thinking that the second they interact with one of their online connections through one of the social media channels, the other person is the only one who is privy to whatever that person is conveying. It isn’t true in the majority of cases. In many cases (depending on your settings), many people will have access to the information. If that is not what you want (and, most likely, it isn’t), you need to do something to change that. You can develop private interactions with the other person. In order to do that, you will have to ask the other person for his or her Email address of some other private information so that you can start to develop a private relationship together.

  • Be cautious with the fan avenue that you choose: There are instances when you don’t wish to share all of your  information or the other person doesn’t wish to share all of his or her information. You can get around that quite easily. You can get along with a minimal amount of information from the other person and you can share only what you feel is appropriate. As your relationship progresses and develops, you can both share more information if you feel that it is appropriate.

  • The benefits of one-to-one interactions: In many cases, one-to-one interactions are more effective than having a much more public relationship. Customizing your relationship with the other person can really have beneficial effects, which will eventually translate into your greater success. The more honestly and openly you communicate with the other person, the better and more meaningful your relationship is going to be.

Conclusion

Social media and the interactions that you are able to create can be highly beneficial for your relationship. As always, it all comes down to trust, credibility, and a genuine desire to help the other person and to put them before you. Always make sure that your clients and prospective clients understand how interested you are in them. Pay attention to what they want and need and try your best to give it to them. If you can do that, you will be a tremendous success.

Discussion: How Do You Use Social Media to Engage Your Clients?

Social media is so crucial for sales organizations today. The customer is more educated than ever (at least they believe they are!) and in my industry, sales representatives are only contacted on average 57% through the decision-making process. With customers doing their own research on their own time, I need to be where they are looking when they are looking for info.
