Adapting Your Content to Your Mobile Device
More and more people nowadays depend on their mobile devices for information. That information includes blog and website content, among other types of information. As a blog owner/writer, it is important to make sure that your content reaches as wide an audience as you intend it to reach.
Your content’s suitability for mobile devices
The first thing that you need to ask yourself regarding your content is if it is suitable for mobile devices. Last year, a majority of people used their mobile devices to access information, including websites, applications, and other forms of content. With that in mind, it is important to understand how impactful your content can be if it works well on mobile devices considering that so many people use their mobile device as their primary means of content access.
As you probably understand well, your blog gives you credibility, builds your reputation, and gives you increased online exposure. If your blog is suitable for mobile devices, you will be able to positively affect a much great number of people, which, in turn, will continue to build your credibility, build your reputation, and give you more online exposure than ever before. It would not be a big surprise to learn that there may be more people using mobile devices than desktops to access your content.
Pay close attention to analytics
Before you invest any time or effort in your content, it is a really good idea to check your analytics. This will enable you to have a sense of how many people are accessing your content from a mobile device. It shouldn’t be very difficult to gather this information. Most of the analytics programs can give you the information that you need.
How to gather the information that you need
The most effective way to test your blog site is by putting yourself in the shoes of the reader. In other words, you need to read the blog as an outsider and attempt to interact from as many mobile devices as you can get your hands on (iPhone, iPad, Galaxy, etc). There are sites that allow you to test how your content appears on a mobile device. It will then provide you with a report, including recommendations on how you can improve upon what you have. It is really useful.
How do you make it better?
There are several different approaches that you can take in order to improve how your content appears on mobile devices.
-
Do not change your website: Changing your website in any way will affect the visitors to your website. If you make changes, it is possible that your visitors will not be able to access your information through a browser on their device. Some of the issues that may be encountered are:
-
Too much scrolling needed: If your website doesn’t fit on the mobile device, your website visitors will have to constantly scroll to the right to read your information. It is likely that the readers won’t have the patience for that. Under the best of circumstances, it is difficult to hold their attention. Throwing something like that into the mix will make it worse.
-
Too much pinching: If your website content appears too tiny, your readers will have to pinch the text and that will get annoying for them.
-
Slow reaction: The mobile device may not offer the same kind of speed that you experience when you are working on a desktop or laptop. It is important to keep in mind the amount of time that it will take to download on a mobile device. If you keep that in mind as you are building your website, you can make your images smaller without ignoring the quality of the images.
-
Use larger call-to-action buttons: The larger your buttons, the more people will be willing to give you what you want. If they don’t notice the button, they won’t be pressing on it. This is an essential part of optimizing your website.
-
-
Create a mobile version of your website: Although this may seem like a tremendous amount of effort, it will be well worth your time in the end. If a person goes to your website from a mobile device, that person will automatically be redirected to your mobile website. It will not require any extra effort on the part of the other person, which is a really good thing. You want to make it as easy as possible on your visitors. On your mobile website, you can have unique content, graphics, etc.
-
Make sure that your website theme is optimized for mobile devices: It is very important that your theme works with mobile devices effectively. It should not have a large amount of graphics and should be as simple to operate as possible. It should also be easy to access.
-
Design your website with the mobile device in mind: When you are building your website, make sure that the content will automatically adjust to the size of the mobile device. Your website will not appear the same on all mobile devices and it is important to keep that in mind. With regard to the graphics, it is important that you don’t have graphics that are too large for the mobile device.
Conclusion
There are many different ways that you can adapt your blog and website content for mobile devices. Whichever way you choose to approach it, what is most important is that you find a way to adapt it that works best for you and your business. When it comes to the importance of your readers, they are all of equal weight. It is critical for you to make sure that you make them all understand that without them, you wouldn’t accomplish anything. It is also critical to your success that you have mobile-friendly content, which will make it as painless as possible for people to find you and to interact with you.

Discussion: Adapting Your Content to Your Mobile Device
Good piece on the transition of content to mobile. I do wonder, however, about simply transporting your existing website to a mobile site without changes as customers behave/search differently in the mobile world.

Your ideas are very relevant, except I won’t agree that it’s a good idea to create a separatte mobile version of your website – from my experience responsive design works better for most businesses and updates on the site are immediately accessable from all devices. Plus with such design you are ready for innovative laptops that also have touchscreen
